Breakfast Power Smoothie
This delicious dairy-free smoothie uses silken tofu as a base blended with banana, juice and strawberries. Omit the protein powder if your personal protein needs are lower.
1 cup (250 mL) silken tofu (such as 1/2 package Vitasoy Silken Tofu)
1/2 medium ripe banana
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup honey (or to taste)
1 scoop protein powder
3/4 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, or fruit of choice
1 cup ice
Blend together tofu, banana, orange juice, honey and fruit until smooth. Add ice, and continue to blend until creamy. Serve immediately.
Berries are full of antioxidants, while beets are a good source of fibre, folate, potassium and vitamin C. Plus, beet juice has been shown to help lower blood pressure thanks to its dietary nitrate. The avocado adds healthy fats–and puts the “smooth” in this smoothie.
1/2 cup (125 mL) blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup (125 mL) raspberries or strawberries, fresh or frozen
1 cup (250 mL) coconut water
1 medium canned or steamed beet, chopped
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
Handful of ice
Blend all ingredients together.
